Problem

In recent years, financial obstacles have prevented younger generations from seeking mental health assistance. The inability to access help when required can result in a harmful cycle that becomes progressively more difficult to overcome.

Opportunity

How might we create an interactive tool that can enhance a user's journey towards positive mental health while making the experience engaging and insightful?

Solution

reMIND, a mental health tool that combines journaling, instant gratification, and positive memory flooding, to help users with self-care, self-reflection, and boosting their overall mental health.

Project Background

1 in 5 people aged 18-24 label their mental health as poor or very poor, more than any other age group. They are also the age group least likely to feel comfortable discussing mental health matters.

Though journaling cannot be a substitute for professional mental health, it can be a helpful tool to supplement therapy or as a stand-alone practice for self-reflection and self-care.

David Goggins, an ultra marathon runner, uses a positive memory flooding system called "the cookie jar method" to draw positivity from his past achievements and memories. A technique which enables him to develop resilience against negative thoughts.

How does it work?

New User Onboarding

The onboarding experience will be friendly and encouraging, and will not force users to over commit. reMIND hopes to be like an encouraging older sibling or that fun aunt or uncle that you wouldn't mind talking to or asking for advice no matter how crazy the problem is.

Notes to self

"Notes to self" feature enables users to make a journal entry where they can either freely write down their thoughts or use the daily prompt option provided by reMIND to answer a different prompt each day. In addition to writing, users will also have the option of recording their thoughts via voice notes, pictures, videos and doodles.

Daily Check-in

A general feelings check-in and the least level of participation required by reMIND. Daily participation is recommended for best results.

If users require assistance with pursuing hobbies or developing/breaking habits, they can include a hobby/habit check-in alongside their daily check-in.

Stats & Insights

reMIND offers Stats & Insights to help users gain self-awareness through journaling. Machine learning is used to generate engaging visualizations and stats, eliminating the need for tedious self-analysis. This feature is particularly beneficial for reMIND's power users.

Mind Boost

The Mind Boost is what makes reMIND unique. Users will be able to experience positive memory flooding through this feature.

By archiving all their notes, images, videos, audio, and check-ins, reMIND will be able to provide users with a recap story from a day in the past that reminds them of their accomplishments and the potential in just a day.

The Process

What I did

I participated in the discovery phase of this project, where I conducted secondary research to gain insights into the competition and market landscape. I also contributed to the product's strategy. However, my biggest contributions came during the design phase.

I designed all the visual elements for the reMIND brand, and then created hi-fidelity screens and prototypes to bring our concept to life. Through my design work, I aimed to make reMIND's interface engaging and user-friendly for our target audience.
